Our Vasek. On the Power of the Powerless (2012) 52 minutes

 This Polish film about Václav Havel, first president of the Czech Republic, is directed by Krystyna Krauze, explores the relationship between the Polish and Czech opposition, and details what happened to end totalitarian regimes in Europe. Havel was awarded the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest honor, in 1993.

2:30 p.m. Masaryk (2016)  1 hour, 54 minutes

 Directed by Julius Sevcik, this Czech film traces the life of diplomat and politician Jan Masaryk, son of Czechoslovakia’s co-founder Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. He served as the country’s minister of foreign affairs and died in 1948, reportedly at the hand of Russia.

 Suggested donation: $5, or bring a Czech, Slovak, Rusin, Moravian or Polish food item to share at the intermission. Proceeds benefit CSCC programming.
